Dark fibre

Control your optical layer with a defined unlit fibre resource. Evaluate point-to-point access, fibre characteristics and operating responsibilities before choosing equipment or a commercial term.

01

Design inputs

Specify both termination addresses, fibre count, connector type and intended optical system. Request fibre type, route length, attenuation, splice records and bidirectional OTDR traces. A fibre category such as G.652 is a starting point, not a complete optical design.

02

Delivery scope

Define demarcation at each optical distribution frame, local access and every intermediate handoff. Confirm rack space, power and site access for customer equipment, and responsibility for amplifiers or regeneration. Lease and long-term fibre-right arrangements require a segment-specific proposal.

03

Acceptance & operations

Agree measured loss at the working wavelengths, test methods, repair ownership, access procedures and change notification. Assess shared ducts and cable sections when requesting diversity. Unlit-fibre availability must be confirmed independently of a carrier's lit-service map.

Engineering the connection

Evidence before commitment.

  1. 01

    Define the endpoints

Record building addresses, meet-me rooms, rack locations, local access and required interfaces. A city name alone is not a delivery location.

  2. 02

    Establish the physical evidence

Request route documents, fibre rights, border handoffs, shared-risk groups and maintenance responsibilities. Distinguish verified alignment from public schematic topology.

  3. 03

Design the optical and service layers

Review loss, connectors, splices, OSNR, dispersion, regeneration and equipment support. Define bandwidth, protection, timing and the service demarcation.

  4. 04

    Prove the delivered service

Agree test duration, traffic profile, error thresholds, latency measurement points, failover and restoration procedures. Archive the agreed baseline and change process.
