Resilience & hybrid connectivity

Build resilience around independent failure domains. Fibre, terrestrial radio and satellite can complement each other, but two suppliers do not automatically produce two independent services.

01

Design inputs

Identify the applications that must survive an outage, their minimum capacity and recovery objectives. Map shared ducts, bridges, landing stations, power, buildings, upstream networks and management systems. Separate physical diversity from protocol-level protection.

02

Delivery scope

Compare alternate paths and media using documented evidence. Define traffic priorities when the backup is smaller than the primary. Check addressing, VPN continuity, routing policy and dependencies on remote authentication or cloud control during a degraded state.

03

Acceptance & operations

Run failure and recovery tests with representative traffic. Validate loss detection, failover, return to primary and incident escalation. Record exceptions and repeat the review when a route changes. Satellite or wireless availability, licensing and capacity are assessed for the specific site and provider.

Engineering the connection

Evidence before commitment.

  1. 01

    Define the endpoints

Record building addresses, meet-me rooms, rack locations, local access and required interfaces. A city name alone is not a delivery location.

  2. 02

    Establish the physical evidence

Request route documents, fibre rights, border handoffs, shared-risk groups and maintenance responsibilities. Distinguish verified alignment from public schematic topology.

  3. 03

Design the optical and service layers

Review loss, connectors, splices, OSNR, dispersion, regeneration and equipment support. Define bandwidth, protection, timing and the service demarcation.

  4. 04

    Prove the delivered service

Agree test duration, traffic profile, error thresholds, latency measurement points, failover and restoration procedures. Archive the agreed baseline and change process.
